One of the best things we got out of our Prenatal class a couple years ago was the community of couples to walk through the whole crazy pregnancy/birth/newborn process with. The moms were an invaluable resource and support especially in the first year of Sloane's life, and now they are friends who I can have fun with, vent to and who have adorable kids to boot. One of those couples was Mike & Kelsey Du, who we got to know as kind, active and easy going people. Mike is a personal-trainer and Kelsey's background is in Athletic Therapy and over the last couple years they began pursuing a huge dream: opening their own fitness studio!
This week that dream became a reality! Revive Lifestyle Fitness is the newest group class studio on the block and we got the chance to check it out this week as they are offering a week of free classes. I wanted to go to classes with anyone and everyone so I signed up for a few days of classes in a row to get the full experience.
I totally loved these classes for a few reasons. First of all, as you can see in the pictures there is a TON of variety in the workouts and fitness equipment. TRX, rowing, spin, weights, benchwork and body weight work are all a part of the workout to some degree and I loved the chance to do all of them rather than going to a full class of just one option. To add to the variety, Mike creates a new workout plan each day. Because of this, the classes went by super fast. The classes are high intensity interval training, so we were constantly onto something new, waiting for the next tough interval, or pushing each other in a team circuit. I love being so focussed on what is up next that I don't have time to wonder when the workout is going to be over.
I'm typically more into independent fitness rather than group workouts, but the way the class was structured made it feel like a guided workout with options to push myself as little or as much as I wanted, without any of the group pressure. The teachers walked around to intro exercises, cue us on times and offer support, but were not constantly talking or in your face.
The beautiful, fresh design of the studio and big windows in the workout room are also big plusses. A calm atmosphere and natural daylight create a space I want to be in, so that definitely makes me want to come back.
After day three of classes, literally every inch of my body is sore. The classes were completely different each time and so while I was definitely stiff going into my last class this morning, I didn't feel like I was overworking one part of my body. It's a full body workout that kept my brain and body interested. Now it's time to nap for like 5 hours :)
The week of free classes runs until this Tuesday, October 11th, so if you have any time over this Thanksgiving weekend I would highly recommend checking it out! It's a super fun way to get your blood pumping and prep your stomach for that double slice of pumpkin pie!!
