Cibo is a delicious, beautiful restaurant on 17th Ave that we've taken friends to and enjoyed again and again. It is a huge restaurant with both bar and restaurant seating as well as a patio, so you are almost guaranteed to get a seat without a wait. The patio is gorgeous, with string lights, hanging planters, and sheltered from busy 17th by a wood fence which makes it perfect for those balmy summer evenings. This is a place where you can take your parents for a classy dinner of gnocchi, ravioli and wine, or hang out with friends over cocktails and appies. While I only have good things to say about any of the food I've tried there, this post is about our very favourite aspect of Cibo: PIZZA HAPPY HOUR!
This pizza is one of our favourite pizzas in the city full price, but from 3-5 on weekdays, Cibo serves up a special menu of pizzas for $5 each. FIVE DOLLAR PIZZA! I know right? It's ridiculous and so delicious. The toppings are simple and yummy, and the crust is out of this world. A little chewy, a little crispy, a little airy, a little salty...it's probably a good thing that Cibo made a one-pizza-per-person rule (PTL Sloane counted as a full person) because we would never stop ordering that pizza.
In addition, glasses of house wine and beers on tap are $6 during happy hour. So it's really happy. I don't look happy in the photo below but that's because I'm just on my first sip.
A new factor that influences our ability to enjoy restaurants these days is our 1 year old. While most meals come with a new level of stress, it's nice to go to a restaurant that is so spacious that Sloane can make a bit of noise and movement and we don't have to feel like we are bothering other patrons. While we were placed in a fairly empty corner of the restaurant, we were not forgotten and the staff was very attentive.
Thank goodness Colin works through most happy hours or we might be there every other day :)
